Only 10% of this waste is currently being recycled with the remaining 90% disposed at landfill sites, which are fast approaching full capacity.

About w2e

We are passionate waste technologists taking an entrepreneurial approach to clean energy. Waste2Energy Solutions (Pty) Ltd was founded by Ayanda Mtelana. Mtelana developed a passion for waste to energy opportunities when working as an engineer for the East London Municipality, in the Eastern Cape in South Africa.

He launched a number of successful recycling schemes for his municipality and since then the Waste2Energy team hasn’t stopped investigating and developing technologies to source, transport and anaerobically digest waste products.

Anaerobic digestion

Anaerobic Digestion (‘AD’) is a renewable energy production technology through which animal slurry and fermented silage is digested to form organic fertiliser and bio-gas. The bio-gas (comprising mainly of methane) is in turn converted into a consistent supply of electricity

Chicken Litter

Most of the known technology providers refrain from integrating in their technical solutions a high percentage of chicken litter. It is well known that chicken litter is considered as a complicated and a difficult substrate…

Municipal Solid Waste Solutions

Municipal solid waste is entirely a different story when it comes to scientific uncertainty…

Sugar Bagasse Waste Products Anaerobic Design Process

Agriculture plays a vital role in the country’s development because 50% of GDP comes from the agricultural area…

Onshore kelp anaerobic digestion process

Kelp is an energy crop that is edible and according to studies, the use of these crops causes fewer carbon emissions, hence making it a sustainable source of energy production…

Urban Landfill Site Biogas Potential

In 2015, the worldwide generation of municipal solid waste was approximately about 1.3 billion tons for every year, and it is relied upon to increment roughly 2.2 billion tons for every year…
